Going to Nyack was fun. School is killer. Thanksgiving will be boring. The further the year goes on, the less I care about AP Calculus. Or journalism, for that matter. I've completely blown it off. It's not a class, so I won't bother to write anything for it. We're two months late with our first issue, I'm supposed to write three stories but I haven't written anything. Worst editor-in-chief ever.
Whatever though. Nyack was fun. Went with Danielle, and Joshua. Joshua I met once before but I didn't really remember him. Huge goddamn nerd, by the way. He made a ton of references to a ton of things, many of which I got. And he likes Jonathan Coulton. People are not supposed to be like that in real life!
So yeah. We saw TMBG. Twice in one day; the kids' show in the afternoon and the 16+ show at night. Yay. So we went with Danielle's boyfriend Mike, who has seen...something like... 130 TMBG shows? He has their signatures tattooed on his ankles. He is internet-famous and arguably Their biggest fan. It was a little weird. He'd tell me what the next song was just by the start of the band's introduction speech to it. We didn't go into the city at all, and even if we had planned to there wasn't any time for it. Ah well.
It was fun. Met some interesting people. Listened to some good music, not only from the concert but from Danielle's and Josh's extensive CD collections. Became a better driver. Got tired and giggly and cursed like a sailor. Lost a lot of sleep, which I'm still trying to make up for. Lost a lot of hours at work and a lot of spare time. I'm glad to be home. All in all though, I'm glad I did it too. It was fun.
I probably have some photos on my camera, but they likely didn't turn out. I'll be pleasantly surprised if any of them did.
Tired now. Don't have anything else to write about. Going to bed.

| "Peace" - by Eleanor Farjeon (or, proof I've been working on stuff for the past two days) |
[Nov. 15th, 2006|11:45 am] |
i. I am as awful as my brother War, I am the sudden silence after clamour. I am the face that shows the seamy scar When blood has lost its frenzy and its glamour. Men in my pause shall know the cost at last That is not to be paid in triumphs or tears, Men will begin to judge the thing that's past As men will judge it in a hundred years.
Nations! whose ravenous engines must be fed Endlessly with the father and the son, My naked light upon your darkness, dread! -- By which ye shall behold what ye have done: Whereon, more like a vulture than a dove, Ye set my seal in hatred, not in love.
ii. Let no man call me good. I am not blest. My single virtue is the end of crimes, I only am the period of unrest, The ceasing of the horrors of the times; My good is but the negative of ill, Such ill as bends the spirit with despair, Such ill as makes the nations' soul stand still And freeze to stone beneath its Gorgon glare.
Be blunt, and say that peace is but a state Wherein the active soul is free to move, And nations only show as mean or great According to the spirit then they prove. -- O which of ye whose battle-cry is Hate Will first in peace dare shout the name of Love? |

I finally finally finally bought John Hodgman's book.
I have traveled to at least seven states and several foreign countries. This includes England where, on a charge of "leaning an object against the fence" (police code for nighttime drunken zoo-invasion), I spent a night in a London jail, which my captors insisted on spelling it "G-A-O-L." This is but one of the ways they tortured me. Let us not speak of it again. |

The teacher (professor, rather?) seems pretty cool. I came in late (THERE WERE NO PARKING SPOTS ARRGH, and I had to get all my textbooks) but he didn't care, he's one of the teachers that doesn't take attendance and doesn't care so long as you show up for tests. He looks like Penn Jilette and acts like my 6th grade history teacher. The lecture was interesting and he made a lot of jokes too. I must've taken 6 or 7 pages of notes, front-and-back. (If you saw my AP US History notes from last year, you'd be as amazed as I am at that.)
On grammar: "To, too, two and 2. Believe me folks, it doesn't add up to 8."
"They drove through Sarajevo in an open-top car. Didn't they learn anything from Kennedy? Wait..."
All in all, it was a good class. I daresay it was...fun? At any rate I'm learning tons.
Tomorrow is Sociology and ASL. I'm flipping through my ASL textbook already... :3
On an unrelated note, it is chilly! Really pretty cold this morning and this evening. Wasn't there supposed to be some sort of transitional season between summer and winter, when all the leaves start to fall to the ground? The name escapes me, but I'm sure I remember something like that...
~Joy likes it too cold better than too warm anyway. |

I think I've gotten more driving experience in the past not-quite-week since I got my license than in the month or two before. I can drive anytime I please, to wherever basically, and I'm not as uptight when I'm alone in the car. I'm not constantly second-guessing myself like "Do I have the right of way? Can I make that turn?" I'm much more relaxed. NOWIJUSTNEEDAJOBTOGETMONEYBECAUSEINEEDSOMEMONEYYESTHATWOULDBEGOOD. Cici's is hiring. The pizza place where Jessie works. So is this party supply store by the movie theatre, I picked up an application there. Don't ask me why I didn't do this at the beginning of the summer.
PS: I love classical public radio and I don't care who knows it. Half hour songs and no commercials. Yay! :3 |

"For the seamstresses?" said Vimes, putting the pliers down in a hurry. "Those things? No, the ladies of the night take pride these days in never requiring that sort of thing. My work with them is more of, shall we say, a preventative nature." "Teaching them to use thimbles, that sort of thing?" "Yes, it's amazing how far you can push a metaphor, isn't it..."

Gaah, this summer weather. It's not even comfortable to go outside anymore. Which is exactly why I'm going to King's Island again with Jessie and Elyssa on Friday?
At least I'll be doing stuff now that school's almost over. Between everything lately I haven't gotten out much. Haven't seen Danielle or Brandon or those guys in months.
PN Day is tomorrow! I will definitely stay in 'PN Chat' on AIM for the whole time I am online and I damn well better get some visitors. PNers! We haven't had a chat in, like, FOREVER! Ya shmucks. But I love yas. I'll be writing a nice thoughtful too-long-to-read entry on that soon, by the way. Tonight after midnight or tomorrow sometime.
My mood is selected as 'chipper'. Chipper? Chipper was the name of one of our dogs a long time ago. And it reminds me of the Tin Man. I'd be young and chipper, and I'd lock it with a zipper. Or something?
I've been reading a lot of my old entries lately (you'll find out why soon), and I absolutely hated it when I skipped around from random thing to random thing. And when I complained about having nothing to write about. And I did both those things a lot. I was also rather emo at times... And a year or two from now, I'll hate reading these entries as well.
Life is good right now though. Can't complain.

I got The Annotated Alice for my birthday. Zi, if you have the means to do so, go out and buy it right now it is gorgeous. An absolute wealth of information.
Something I learned: Dodgson memorised 70-some digits of Pi. ^_^
Saturday I am going to Scallywag [laser tag] with Jessie Elyssa Doug Paula and maybe Soo Wan! It's going to be fantastic.
John Hodgman was on the Daily Show last night (rather, night before last, but I caught it at 8:00 yesterday). I really need to download some of the Little Gray Books podcasts, because everything he does I find positively hilarious. Also, JC contributes to those.
Today I have the day off. I slept until 10:30 and I have completely wasted the day up till now. Now I'm going to have lunch.

Tell me anything you want as long as it's good and it's got a winter, holiday (if you have Hanukkah songs that aren't by Adam Sandler, that's a plus), or Christmas theme.
And, what's that song they played all the goddamn time last year? For The Polar Express? I think it was Josh Groban. It was a good song.
PS: ( My AIM Profile is friggin' awesome. ) That's a double-entendre'd song lyric from Paula's English teacher, a Shakespeare quote and a Richard Dawkins quote. I love it. |
